Roberto Clemente Museum Walk
Tuesday May 8th, 2018

The students and faculty at Clemente held a special event on May 8th, 2018. The purpose of this event was to showcase all the students' hard work and display their projects that speak about and relate to global awareness. Students from all grades had a chance to stand in front of their work and present to different groups as they passed through the "museum".  After school that day from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, a second rotation of the museum walk was completed, this time specifically for family and friends.  We had an exceptional turnout with more than 100 guests!

World Read Aloud Day
February 1st, 2018

On the first day of February, the Clemente student body and faculty participated in a worldwide reading event. Guests came from all over to read to different classes and many of the Clemente staff dressed up as their favorite book characters. Some of the guests included police, firemen, politicians, and educators.  Different news stations, such as the New Haven Independent, WTNH, and the Register, came to Roberto to cover this special day.  To end the day, the entire school lined up throughout the hallways to connect a paper chain.  Each chain link represents one book that was read by a student.  Students worked hard over the past few months to create as many links as they could and on World Read Aloud Day they were able to show off their success. The result was quite impressive!

On October 3rd, Clemente staff and students hosted a fundraiser walk-a-thon to help raise money for future school events, supplies, and field trips. Police on motorcycles helped patrol as our students made their way down Howard Avenue, Spring Street, and Washington Avenue. The Hillhouse Marching Band also joined in the activity. The rhythm of their drumline and sound of brass instruments brought the whole neighborhood to life. Staff, students, and their families finished the walk at Ernest McClain Park where they participated in games and activities like tug-of-war, egg toss, basketball, relay races, and face painting. It was a great turnout and a successful day for the school and the community!

BLACK HISTORY MONTH: SCHOOL-WIDE ASSEMBLY
Monday February 29th, 2016

On Monday, February, 29th our school hosted a school-wide assembly which recognized the end of Black History Month. Teachers brought down their students to the gymnasium and cafeteria and filled up the seats. The room was filled with excitement and all students were eager to watch the wonderful show that had been put together. We had the opportunity to listen to younger student classes, as well as the chorus students, singing traditional songs along with the student band adding some beats and rhythms. A group of high school students from New Haven Academy came to visit and performed an awesome rendition of a traditional African dance over the beat of two djembes. One of our very own faculty members stepped up to sing an amazing a cappella that had all students captivated. And the Clemente girls Step team showed off their skills and there were other speakers and guests who added to the assembly's success. Big Shout out to Mrs. Jefferson, Mr. Jackson, and everyone and anyone else who helped organize this awesome assembly that the whole school enjoyed! Below are a few photos from the day.

HILL HEROES: COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP
Saturday November 7th, 2015

On Saturday November 7th, Clemente students and faculty came together and put in the effort to clean up the surrounding Hill neighborhood. Mr. Hicks and the Student Council organized the event and it was an amazing success. Over 120 people from the community including former students, parents, friends, and relatives came out to support this cause. Mayor Toni Harp came to kick off the event and commended our student leaders on their work. The students were beyond excited! Some generous participants donated gloves, water, food, plates, napkins, forks, and garbage bags. It was a wonderful turnout for an important cause!

Below is a link to all the photographs from that day!
